SheaMoisture UK Guide — Coconut & Hibiscus, Manuka, JBC

The full UK SheaMoisture guide. Sofi Tucker founder story, Community Commerce model, every range explained, and routine builders per curl type using SheaMoisture only.

SheaMoisture is one of the most-recognised textured-hair brands in the world — and the most-stocked Black-owned beauty brand in UK retail. Founded in 1912 by Sofi Tucker in Sierra Leone and relaunched in the US by her grandson Richelieu Dennis, SheaMoisture's fair-trade Community Commerce model delivers a price-accessible range that works across every curl type. This is the full UK guide to the brand and every SheaMoisture product Zenvy stocks.

The brand's heritage

SheaMoisture's origin goes back over a century. Sofi Tucker began selling shea butter, African black soap, and homemade beauty preparations in Sierra Leone in 1912. Four generations later, her grandson Richelieu Dennis emigrated to the US in the 1980s and relaunched the brand in 1991 as part of Sundial Brands, building it into a global force in textured hair.

Sofi Tucker founder story expanded

Sofi Tucker was a widowed mother of four who sold beauty preparations to support her family in early-1900s Sierra Leone. The recipes she used — shea butter from West African shea trees, black soap from cocoa pods, hibiscus extracts — became the foundation of every modern SheaMoisture formula. Her great-grandchildren still run the company today.

The Community Commerce model that defines SheaMoisture funnels a percentage of profits back into West African women's cooperatives and supports fair-trade shea sourcing. It's one of the few mainstream beauty brands with a verifiable supply-chain ethics story.
