Lottabody for setting and wrapping

A setting lotion brand that moved with the times

Lottabody made its name on setting lotion, the concentrate you diluted in a bowl of water before rollers went in. That original product is still here in a 450ml bottle, and it still works the same way. What has changed is everything around it.

The current range covers co-wash, conditioner, curl milk, custard, edge control, blowout lotion and foaming mousse, so a whole routine can be built inside the brand.

The concentrate and how to use it

The Texturizing Setting Lotion Concentrate at 450ml is not meant to be used neat. Mix roughly one part lotion to three or four parts water, adjust to taste, and apply to damp hair before rolling or wrapping. More concentrate gives more hold and more stiffness.

The Coconut and Shea Oils Style Me Texturizing Setting Lotion at 354ml is the ready-diluted version. Less faff, less control, and it costs more per use. Worth it if you set once a fortnight rather than twice a week. The plain Setting Lotion at 236ml sits between the two: quick drying, shine forward, and aimed at waves, wraps and sets.

Coconut and Shea versus Milk and Honey

Coconut and Shea is the lighter of the two sub-ranges. Clean Me Co-Wash at 300ml, Sleek Me Blowout Lotion at 236ml and the Style Me setting lotion sit there, and it suits hair that gets weighed down easily.

Milk and Honey is richer. Restore Me Cream Conditioner at 300ml is the deep conditioning step, and Tame Me Edge Control at 63.7g is the hairline product. Choose this side if your hair is dry, coarse or damaged. Control Me Edge Gel, also 63.7g, is the third hairline option, with a firmer hold than Tame Me.

Sets, wraps and wash-and-gos

For roller sets and doobies, dilute the concentrate, apply to damp hair, roll, then dry fully under a hood or overnight. Taking rollers out of hair that is even slightly damp costs you the whole set.

For wash-and-gos, Shape Me Custard Gelee at 198.4g gives definition with a soft cast, and Moisture Me Curl and Style Milk at 236ml goes underneath it as the moisture layer. Wrap Me Foaming Mousse at 7oz covers wraps and blow-dried styles, adding shine without a sticky finish.

British weather notes

Summer humidity between 75 and 90 percent is exactly what setting lotion was made for. A properly dried set holds through a damp day far better than a heat style, which is why sets stayed popular in this country long after they faded elsewhere.

Winter is drier indoors, near 30 percent, and hair goes static. Milk and Honey Restore Me Cream Conditioner and a lighter hand with the concentrate suit those months, and Sleek Me Blowout Lotion is the one to use before heat.

Questions

Lottabody questions, answered

How do I dilute the Texturizing Setting Lotion Concentrate?
Start at one part lotion to three or four parts water, in a bowl or a spray bottle, then adjust. More concentrate means firmer hold and a stiffer set, less means softer movement and quicker drying.
What is the difference between the Concentrate and Style Me?
The 450ml Concentrate needs diluting and gives you control over the strength. Coconut and Shea Oils Style Me Texturizing Setting Lotion at 354ml is ready to use straight from the bottle, which is quicker but dearer per set.
Is setting lotion only for roller sets?
No. It works for wraps, doobies, flexi rods, perm rods and blow-dried styles. Anywhere you want a shape to hold once the hair dries, a diluted setting lotion does more than a leave-in conditioner on its own.
Which Lottabody edge control holds strongest?
Control Me Edge Gel at 63.7g has the firmer hold of the two. Milk and Honey Tame Me Edge Control, in the same size, is slightly softer and more moisturising, which suits a fragile hairline rather better.
Will setting lotion leave my hair crunchy?
Only if the mix is too strong. Dilute further, and brush or finger-comb the set out once the hair has dried fully. The cast is meant to be broken, and hair that feels stiff at that stage usually softens completely.
Can I use Lottabody on relaxed hair?
Yes. The setting lotions, Wrap Me Foaming Mousse and Sleek Me Blowout Lotion all suit relaxed and blow-dried hair. Milk and Honey Restore Me Cream Conditioner is the conditioning step for chemically treated lengths.
What is Sleek Me Blowout Lotion for?
Smoothing before heat. Apply to damp hair before blow-drying to cut frizz and add shine to the finished blowout. It sits in the Coconut and Shea line, so it is lighter than the Milk and Honey products.
Is Clean Me a shampoo?
It is a co-wash, so it cleanses without lather and leaves hair softer than shampoo does. Use a clarifying shampoo every third or fourth wash so setting lotion and edge control do not accumulate at the roots.
What suits a wash-and-go?
Moisture Me Curl and Style Milk at 236ml as the moisture layer, then Shape Me Custard Gelee at 198.4g on top for definition. Both are made for wavy, curly and coily hair, and the custard sets without going hard.
Does Wrap Me Foaming Mousse work for doobie wraps?
That is one of its main uses. Apply to damp hair, wrap, tie down and dry. The 7oz can gives hold with shine, which is what a wrap needs, without the tack you get from a hairspray.
How long does a set last?
Three to five days for most people, longer if you wrap at night under a satin scarf. Damp British weather shortens it, so a firmer dilution and a full dry make more difference than any single product.
Do I need to dry a set fully before taking rollers out?
Yes, completely. Hair that is even slightly damp will drop within an hour. Hood dryers are quickest and overnight air drying works, and pressing a finger into a roller at the nape is the most reliable check.
