Most conditioners have one setting. This one has three, and that is genuinely useful if you would rather not buy a separate product for every job. A minute in the shower is a normal rinse-out. Fifteen minutes is a deep conditioning treatment. A five pence sized amount worked through damp hair and left in is a leave-in.

The formula supports all three because of what is in it. Shea butter is the base and does the moisturising, argan oil brings back shine and helps hair hold its stretch, and sea kelp extract clears away the residue that leaves lengths looking dull. Behentrimonium chloride and emulsifying wax give it the slip, with panthenol, avocado oil, vitamin E and carrot seed oil filling in behind.

No parabens, no sulfates, no mineral oil, no synthetic fragrance or colour, and it is colour-safe and not tested on animals. Best for type 2c through 4b hair that is dry, damaged and lifeless, and particularly good if you want one product covering rinse-out, deep treatment and leave-in duty.

Application tips

How much goes on depends on which of the three ways you are using it. In the shower, coat and comb and go. As a treatment, pile it on and clip the hair up under a cap. Left in, use far less than feels right or the roots flatten.

Results

Dry, lifeless hair comes back with some weight and movement to it. Detangling gets easier at whichever strength you use it.

Shine returns to lengths that had gone matte, and the strand stretches further before it breaks. Used as a leave-in it keeps hair soft for two or three days, which is the version most people end up settling on.
