Doo Gro across the moisturising range
What Doo Gro is
Doo Gro has been sold in the UK for years and it is one of those ranges people either grew up with or found through a friend. The products are thick, traditional and inexpensive, and almost all of them are built around oiling the scalp regularly and keeping the hair moisturised between washes.
The product names carry Gro and Growth on the label. That is the brand's naming rather than a claim we make. What these products do is moisturise, keep the scalp comfortable, and cut down the breakage that stops people holding on to length.
Vitalizers and oils
The Hair Vitalizers are the thick, jelly textured products in tubs. There are four: the original medicated vitalizer, the anti itch formula, triple strength, and Mega Long. They go on the scalp in sections, a fingertip at a time, and they are meant to stay put between washes.
The oils are lighter and they pour. Stimulating growth oil, Mega Thick growth oil and the anti itch growth oil can go on the scalp or down the length, and they suit anyone who finds the tubs too heavy. If you are new to the range, start with an oil rather than a vitalizer.
Washing and conditioning
The moisturising growth shampoo is the everyday wash, and the tingling growth shampoo is the one with menthol in it for people who like the cooling feel. On the conditioning side, growth repair conditioner and the triple strength growth detangler cover regular use, Mega Thick anti thinning conditioner is for fine hair, and Mega Long extreme reconstructor is the heavy deep treatment for the ends.
The leave in Gro treatment is the between wash product, and it is the one to keep on the shelf if you wear braids or twists.
A week with the range
A typical routine looks like this. Wash weekly with the moisturising shampoo, deep condition with Mega Long every second or third wash, use the detangler in between, and oil the scalp two or three times a week. That is enough. Daily oiling on top of a heavy vitalizer leaves the roots flat and the scalp coated.
What to expect
Length retention is slow work. It comes from washing regularly, keeping the ends moisturised, handling hair gently when it is wet, and not putting the same tension on the hairline week after week. Doo Gro helps with the moisture and comfort side of that. It is a cosmetic range, and we make no medical claims for it. If your scalp is sore, or you are shedding noticeably more than usual, see a GP or a pharmacist.
