Apply it to damp hair and style with or without a diffuser. Both work, which is more than can be said for a lot of definition products, because the formula does not depend on heat to set.
What it does well is consistency down the length. Roots, mid-lengths and ends come out with the same amount of control, so a curl does not go defined at the top and fluffy at the bottom. That is usually what people mean when they say a style did not hold.

Application tips
Damp hair rather than soaking, and rake it through a section at a time so coverage is even from root to tip.
Scrunch, then either diffuse or walk away; neither method needs the other. For more definition, add a second thin layer over the top of the first while the hair is still damp instead of loading up in one go.
Results
Hold lands in the middle. Firm enough to keep a curl pattern together through a working day, soft enough that you can run a hand through it without hearing anything crack.
