Chemical relaxers, repeated blow-drying and colour all leave hair in the same state: rough to the touch, slow to bounce back, splitting at the ends. This is the step for hair in that condition, when conditioner on its own has stopped being enough.

Olive oil carries the formula. It is a balm rather than a rinse-out conditioner, so it stays thick in the hand and goes where you put it, and the 8.5 oz tub lasts because you are working small amounts through the mid-lengths and ends rather than coating the whole head.

  • Softens hair that feels rough after relaxing or colouring
  • Improves stretch, so strands snap less when you comb through
  • Puts moisture back into ends that have gone dry and papery
  • Leaves enough slip that detangling stops being a fight

Work it through damp hair in sections, concentrating on the lengths rather than the scalp. Small amounts built up beat one heavy handful. Suits wavy through to coily hair, and it is most useful on hair recovering from a chemical service.

Application tips

Balm texture melts on contact, so scoop a little and hold it in the palm for a second before it goes anywhere. Towel-dried hair takes it best.

Press it into the ends and the mid-lengths, where the damage sits, and leave the roots alone. Once or twice a week is enough. Wrap the hair afterwards and leave it overnight.

Results

Over-processed hair feels different after a few uses: less papery between the fingers, more willing to stretch before it snaps.

Chemical and heat damage shows up as roughness, and roughness is what this settles. Ends look tidier, elasticity comes back a little, and hair that had gone limp holds a style again.
