Edges are their own problem. The hair there is finer and shorter than everything else on the head, and a gel strong enough for a braid usually leaves it stiff and flaking. Edge Magic is the 4oz jar you keep for that job alone.
It gives a firm hold that still has some give in it, so baby hairs stay laid without the crunch, and the style survives a day out rather than lifting after two hours. It dries clear, so there is no white residue crusting along the hairline.
The formula carries argan, jojoba, castor and olive oils. That is what keeps the finish from feeling like plastic, and it stops the edges being left dry once you brush the product out.
Best for type 3 and type 4 hair. Use a small brush, apply to damp edges, shape them, then tie a scarf over the front for ten minutes to set.

Application tips
Edges only. Work on a clean hairline with nothing else sitting on it, dampen the baby hairs with a spray bottle, then load a very small amount onto an edge brush.
Sweep and shape while it is wet, because it will not move once dry. A silk scarf pressed down for a quarter of an hour sets the swoops. Brush the front out at night and rinse the brush after.
Results
Firm enough to keep a swoop exactly where it was put, soft enough that the hairline still moves when touched. Dries clear, which keeps a white crust from forming along the front as the day wears on.
The oils leave those fine hairs feeling conditioned once the product has been brushed away, rather than parched.
