Damp hair, always, since a max hold gel on dry hair grabs and goes patchy.
Smooth a small amount over each section with your palm for a sleek look, or rake it through and scrunch for curls. Shape it once and then stop touching it, because reworking a setting gel is what causes flaking. Let it dry fully. Scrunch the cast out afterwards if you want softness.
