Mielle Rice Water & Aloe Braid Gel 5oz
Braiding sessions are long, and a gel that flakes halfway through is a real problem. This 5oz one is made for the job. There is enough grip to keep the hair together while you work, and no white residue building up in the parts.
Aloe vera and rice bran extract lead it, with rapeseed oil, yuzu peel extract, glycerin, panthenol and sodium PCA. It conditions the scalp while it holds, which matters when the product is going directly onto skin rather than hair.
Braid gel and edge gel are not the same product. This is the braid one, less rigid and carrying more moisture, because it has to sit against the scalp for days rather than hours.
Apply straight to the scalp for braiding, or use it all over if you are smoothing a style down. It does a decent job on edges too. Best on type 2c through type 4a textures being braided, twisted or slicked.

Application tips
Work with clean, stretched hair. Take a little on the back of your hand and dip into it as you part, rather than carrying the pot around with you.
A thin film along the part and down the first inch is all a braid needs. If you are adding extensions, coat the join lightly so the two blend without sliding.
Results
Braids sit neat from the first day, with the partings staying visible instead of blurring as the hair loosens. Nothing whitens along the scalp when you sweat.
The hold keeps flyaways in without setting the hair rigid, so a fresh style does not pull. Weeks in, the scalp still feels conditioned rather than coated.
