Boar bristle does something synthetic bristle cannot: it grips the cuticle and drags the scalp's own oils down the length of the hair. On edges that means a smoother lay and less static, which is why this one turns up in barbers' and stylists' kits.

The head is streamlined and the bristles are firm, so it has enough backbone to lay a hairline and cut a clean line, but it is gentle enough to run root to ends on a ponytail without roughing the hair up.

What it does

  • Natural boar bristles grip and smooth the cuticle
  • Redistributes the scalp's natural oils down the hair for shine
  • Lays edges, defines sharp lines and tames flyaways
  • Smooths ponytails, braids and updos with a light hand

How to use it

Work on clean, dry or slightly damp hair, adding a pea-sized amount of edge control or pomade along the hairline and temples if you want more hold. Brush down and inwards along the natural curve of the hairline in short, precise strokes. Wash the brush in warm water with mild shampoo, rinse well, and air dry bristles-down.

Model No.7747. Suits professionals and anyone styling edges, braids and sleek finishes at home.

Application tips

Keep it out of the shower and off soaking hair. Boar works best on dry or barely damp strands, where there is enough friction for the bristles to carry oil along the length rather than skid over water.

For hairline work, small strokes and light pressure beat long sweeping ones. Build the shape in stages and let the product set between passes. Wash the brush weekly in warm water with a drop of shampoo, bristles facing down so nothing pools in the base.

Results

Boar has a texture synthetic bristle cannot copy. It catches the surface of a strand, which is why one pass leaves the hair looking closed and reflective instead of roughed up.

On edges the result is a flatter, more controlled lay with less fuzz standing off. Over the length it takes the frizz out of a ponytail or a wrapped style and leaves a soft shine that owes nothing to product.
