Most edge gels trade softness for hold. Curl Essence Healthy Edges leans the other way, laying edges flat with a flake-free grip while keeping the hairline moisturised rather than crisp. It is a good fit under updos, ponytails and braids, where the hairline has to look sharp for hours.

Ricinus communis (castor) seed oil and cocos nucifera (coconut) oil carry the conditioning, working against the dryness and frizz that make baby hairs stand up in the first place. Glycerin acts as a humectant so edges stay flexible instead of brittle.

What it does

  • Smooths and defines edges with a long-lasting, flake-free hold
  • Moisturises the hairline with castor and coconut oils
  • Counters dryness and frizz along the front of the hair
  • Dries non-sticky, leaving hair soft, manageable and naturally shiny

How to use it

Start with clean, dry edges. Take a pea-sized amount on your fingertips and apply it straight to the hairline, then smooth into shape with your fingers, a fine-toothed comb or a soft-bristle brush. For a firmer set on stubborn hair, tie a silk scarf over the edges for a few minutes.

Made for natural curls, coils and waves. 2.5 oz / 68 ml.

Application tips

Edges want to be clean and dry before anything goes on them, since product over yesterday's product is what causes the little white balls. Take a small amount, warm it on a fingertip, and press it along the hairline rather than dragging it.

Brush with a soft edge brush, laying the baby hairs where you want them. A satin scarf tied over the front for ten minutes sets it.

Results

Edges lie flat and stay there through a long day, and they do it without the crunchy, lacquered feel that comes with most edge gels.

The hairline stays soft, which matters because dry baby hairs are exactly the ones that lift and fluff by lunchtime. Nothing flakes, nothing goes sticky, and the front of the hair keeps a natural shine rather than looking wet.
