Standard locking gel works fine until the hair stops cooperating. Very coarse 4C textures, hair that has been texturised recently, and hair transitioning out of a relaxer all share the same problem: the twist unravels before the roots have set.

The reason to reach for this rather than a resistant wax is what happens later. Wax gets its grip from hardness, and hardness is what you end up scrubbing out months down the line. This holds through polymer strength instead and dissolves in water, so the extra grip does not cost you a dull, coated head of locs.
Apply on damp hair, root by root, and let it dry completely before you go anywhere near a pillow.

Application tips
Damp hair takes it best. Fully wet and the gel dilutes, bone dry and it drags.
Take a small amount to the root of each loc, roll it between the palms down the length, then palm-roll or retwist in the direction the loc already turns. Sit under a dryer or leave it to air dry undisturbed, because a loc handled while the gel is still wet will unravel anyway. The 16 oz tub is a salon size.
Results
Freshly retwisted roots hold. That is the whole test, and this passes it on textures where a standard gel gives up by the second day.
The set dries firm rather than sticky, with no white flaking through the parting. Locs look neater at the base and keep a defined edge for longer between appointments. Come wash day it dissolves out under water, so nothing accumulates to dull the loc over months of use.
