Fine Lines UK Black Detangling Brush - Pain-Free Detangling & Smooth Hair for All Hair Types Large
Detangling brushes work because the bristles move. Instead of forcing a knot apart, the rows flex backwards under load and let the tangle slide off the tips, which is why they hurt less than a paddle brush on the same head of hair.
The large Fine Lines version is the one to pick if you have length or density to get through. A bigger head covers more of a section per stroke, so a full detangle takes fewer passes and less time with your arm held above your head.
- Flexible bristles that give way rather than pull
- Works on wet hair, where the strand is at its most fragile, and on dry
- Safe on extensions, wigs and weaves
- Large head, better suited to long or thick hair than to a fringe
Start at the ends and work upwards in short sections. On curls, do it with conditioner still in and the brush will find far fewer knots to argue with. Rinse the head out now and then, because the gaps between the rows collect more shed hair than you would expect.
It will not give you a smooth blow dried finish, and it is not meant to. Its whole job is to get you from tangled to combed with as little breakage as possible, and then hand you over to a paddle or a roller brush for the styling.

Application tips
Hold the section you are working on in one hand, above where the knot sits, so the pull lands on your fist and not on the scalp.
Short strokes at the very bottom, then move up an inch at a time.
Four sections is plenty on most heads. If a knot will not give after a couple of passes, add slip with a spray or a little conditioner rather than forcing it.
Results
Knots come apart instead of being torn through, and the whole job takes minutes rather than a resentful half hour. Less hair collects in the bristles, which is the honest measure of whether a brush is working.
The wide head suits long or dense hair, covering a full section per stroke, and it leaves the surface smooth without flattening curl pattern the way a paddle would.
