High and tight cuts, sharp side parts and 360 waves all depend on one thing: a product that will not let go halfway through the day. This 3.5 oz jar is the maximum hold end of the Dax range, aimed squarely at that.

The grip is iron-firm and it holds through humidity, which is the real test in a British summer. The finish is high gloss without the greasy weight some heavy pomades leave, so hair looks sharp rather than wet, and flyaways stay flat where you put them.

Dax has been making this kind of product since 1954, and High & Tight is the tin barbers reach for when a style has to survive a working day. Use it on slick backs, pompadours, precise partings and wave brushing. Take a fingernail's worth, warm it, and work it in from the crown forward with a brush rather than your hands if you want the parting sharp.

Best on short to medium hair that has been cut to hold a shape in the first place.

Application tips

Best used on a fresh cut, which is what the product is built around. Warm a small amount, apply to damp hair, then brush in the direction the waves or the parting are meant to run.

For 360 waves, brush for a few minutes after applying and put a durag on. For a slick back or a side part, comb it and leave it alone.

Results

Maximum hold in this range means the shape survives wind, a hat and a humid afternoon without lifting. Short cuts stay sharp at the edges all day.

At a sensible dose it gleams without reading as greasy. Frizz and flyaways stay down, which is what keeps a high and tight sharp at every edge.
