Grey turns up at the hairline first, often years before it shows anywhere else, and no amount of edge control hides it. This version is tinted black, so it darkens what is underneath while it lays the hairline down. That is the whole reason it exists alongside the clear one.
The hold is rated at 24 hours and it behaves like it. Edges stay where you brush them through a full day and a night, with no white flaking when you touch the hair later. Argan Oil in the formula keeps it from going stiff, so the hairline still looks like hair rather than a painted-on edge.
Use a small amount on a brush, smooth in the direction you want, and tie a scarf over it for a few minutes to set. Wash it out properly rather than layering fresh gel over old.
One warning worth passing on. Because it is pigmented, it will transfer onto a light pillowcase or a white collar if you apply it heavily and go straight out. Giving it those few minutes under a scarf stops that being an issue.

Application tips
A small amount on an edge brush, smoothed in the direction you want the hair to lie, then left alone to dry before anything touches it.
A scarf over the top for a few minutes sets the shape. There is real pigment in it, so anything pale it touches while still wet will take some. Give it time before you dress.
