Hair that reaches your shoulders wet and sits at your chin once it dries has not lost any length. It has simply sprung back up. A pudding is one of the better answers to that, because it carries enough weight to hold the curl down while it sets.

This one is thicker than a jelly and lighter than a butter, which puts it in the right place for dense textures. Roughly 2c through 4c is where it belongs, since those are the patterns that shrink most. The hold is light, the finish is soft and stretched, and there is no stickiness or crunch to scrunch out afterwards.

Use it on damp hair, in sections, with a smoothing motion rather than a scrunch. Banding or a few loose twists while it dries will stretch things further. 11.5 oz / 340 ml.

Application tips

Damp rather than soaking, in sections, smoothed from root to tip instead of scrunched.

Band it with soft ties, or put it in a handful of chunky twists, and the drying will stretch it further still. Take those out only when the hair is bone dry. Denser textures can layer it over a leave-in; looser patterns rarely need one.

Results

Hair that springs from shoulder to chin as it dries stays much closer to where it started.

The pudding carries enough weight to hold a coil down while it sets without going heavy on it. Definition stays soft, nothing goes tacky under the fingers, and there is no cast to break at the end. Best on the dense 4b and 4c patterns that shrink most.
