Most people detangle at the conditioner step, because shampoo leaves hair squeaking and knotted. This one is built to be the exception. It carries a slip agent, so fingers and a comb move through while the hair is still being cleaned.

That changes the order of wash day. Knots can be worked out during the 12 oz shampoo stage, which means less time with the hair wet and less pulling overall. The formula also resists shrinkage, so the curl pattern stays stretched rather than balling up the moment water hits it.

Section the hair before you start, and work the shampoo into the scalp first. The lengths get cleaned by what runs down, which is enough on most wash days. It cleans without stripping, so the scalp comes out properly clean and the lengths keep their softness. Made for natural and curly hair, roughly 2c through 4b.

Application tips

Section the hair in four before the water touches it.

Apply to the scalp first and massage in rows, then work the lather down while finger-detangling each section. Knots come out here rather than at the conditioner step. Rinse section by section and twist each one loosely as you finish so it does not re-tangle while you work on the next.

Results

Fingers move through the hair while it is still being cleaned, which is not how shampoo usually behaves.

Less time wet, less pulling overall. The pattern holds its length instead of drawing up tight under the water. Scalp comes out clean, lengths keep their softness, and whatever conditioner follows has considerably less left to do.
