Growash is a cleansing conditioner, which puts it in the co-wash category rather than the shampoo one. There is no lather. You work it through wet hair, it lifts oil and light build-up, and it conditions while it does it.
For textured hair that is often the better trade. A foaming shampoo cleans harder but takes the moisture with it, and coily hair rarely has moisture to spare. A cream cleanser leaves the strand softer, keeps the curl pattern intact and cuts the detangling stage down considerably.
It will not replace a clarifying wash forever. Every few weeks a proper shampoo is still worth doing to clear anything that has accumulated. Between those, this is the gentler weekly option.

Application tips
Soak the hair first, more than you would for a shampoo. Apply generously at the scalp, then use the pads of your fingers to work it against the skin for a minute or two.
Bring it down the lengths, finger detangle while it sits, then rinse thoroughly. Once a fortnight, clarify with a proper shampoo instead of reaching for this.
Results
Hair comes out clean without ever going squeaky, and the strand still has give in it when you squeeze.
The scalp feels refreshed rather than pulled tight. By the second or third day hair is noticeably less thirsty than it would be after a foaming wash, so a refresh spray goes further. Twists and braids set on it hold their softness.
