The Doux 808 Base Gel
808 Base Gel is a foundation layer rather than a finishing product, and using it in that order is the whole trick.
It goes on first, before anything else, and gives medium hold with frizz protection underneath whatever you layer on top. Honey, slippery elm, marshmallow root and aloe carry the slip and the shine, which is why the curls come out juicy rather than lacquered. It suits wash-and-gos, twist-outs and TWAs, and it is aimed at curls that want length and bounce rather than a tight set.
Smooth it through wet hair with your fingers in small sections and let the curls clump together as you go. Use it on its own or top it with a small amount of MOUSSE DEF Texture Foam. Diffusing each section until it is completely dry gives noticeably more bounce than air drying, then fluff to taste.
One rule The Doux are firm about: do not put oil on the hair before this goes on. Oil sits between the gel and the strand and stops the cast forming properly, which is how people end up blaming a product for a technique problem.

Application tips
Nothing goes on before this, and definitely not oil. Rake it through hair that is still dripping, taking sections small enough to watch the clumps form.
Use it on its own or add a little foam over the top. Diffuse until bone dry, then crack the cast with your hands and fluff from the roots.
Results
Curls come out shiny, springy and noticeably longer, because the weight of the gel pulls the coil down as it sets. Frizz stays out of it for days.
The cast is firm at first and breaks into softness, leaving hair that moves. It holds its own as a single product or sits happily under a foam.
