Application tips
Lay the full width of the blade flat to the skin and draw the line in one movement. Going back over it is how a straight neckline ends up curved.
Work the ear from the front of the lobe backwards, folding it forward with your free hand. Come at a design from the outside in so the finished edges stay sharp. Brush the teeth clear between clients and keep a drop of oil on them.
Results
An outline goes down in one sweep, which leaves less chance of the line drifting where two strokes would otherwise meet. Round the ear it follows the curve without stepping.
Edges look drawn rather than trimmed, and that is what separates a finished cut from a nearly finished one. The balance sits far enough forward that close detail work does not need a tense grip.
