The result is firmer, more resilient lengths that hold together through combing rather than snapping halfway down. Because the black castor oil is in there, it does not leave the hair as dry and crunchy as a straight protein treatment can, so you may not need to chase it with a heavy moisture mask afterwards. That is worth something on a wash day that is already three steps long.
Use it on clean, damp hair, through the mid-lengths and ends, and rinse it out. Once every few weeks is usually right for protein. More often than that on already strong hair can tip the balance the wrong way, and the giveaway is hair that feels rough and rigid rather than springy. Application tips
Test before you reach for it. Pull a wet strand gently; if it stretches a long way and stays stretched, this is the week.
Apply to clean, damp hair from the mid-lengths down, comb through, and time it properly rather than leaving it on while you get distracted. Five to ten minutes. Rinse well and follow with a moisturising conditioner if the hair feels tight. Once every three or four weeks.
Results
Lengths firm up. A strand that used to stretch and stay stretched springs back instead, and the hair holds together under a comb rather than parting halfway down.
Because there is castor oil in the formula, it does not finish dry and squeaky the way a straight protein treatment can. Curls read tighter and more defined for a week or so afterwards.
