Pour a little into the palm, rub the hands together, then glide it down each section from mid-length to tip before going back for the roots. Fingers or a wide-tooth comb, whichever your hair tolerates. Style immediately, while everything is still wet. On humid days keep the dose modest, since humectants pull water both ways.
