Scalp care gets harder once braids or locs are in, because you cannot reach the skin the usual way. This oil is built for that gap, going in between the braids rather than over them. The 100 ml bottle is small enough to keep in a bag.

Black castor seed oil does the moisturising and gives the oil its weight. Tea tree leaf oil and peppermint oil bring the clean, cooling feel on the scalp, with glycerin, panthenol and hydrolysed wheat protein behind them for hydration and strength. It absorbs quickly rather than leaving a greasy film on the style.

What it does

  • Made to reduce dandruff flakes and calm an itchy scalp
  • Moisturises and conditions braids, locs and natural hair
  • Helps guard against dryness and breakage between washes
  • Soothes scalp irritation with a refreshing, cooling feel
  • Absorbs without leaving greasy residue on the style

How to use it

Shake the bottle well. Apply a small amount straight to the scalp between braids, locs or sections, then massage it in with your fingertips. You can also mist it lightly over the whole style for sheen and moisture. Use it daily, or whenever the scalp starts to feel dry.

For box braids, twists, faux locs and natural coils. 100 ml / 3.38 oz.

Application tips

The nozzle does the work. Part between two braids, tip the bottle so it touches the scalp, and squeeze once. A few drops per section, not a stripe.

Move across the head in rows, then press the oil in with fingertips rather than nails so the braids are not disturbed. Every two or three days on the scalp; the braids themselves only want it when they feel dry. Wipe your neck afterwards.

Results

Peppermint and tea tree give an immediate cool, clean sensation on skin that has been under tension for a fortnight. The tight, prickly feeling that turns up around week three eases off, and the scalp stops pulling along the parts.

Braids look better for it too, with less dust at the roots and a little more shine down the length. Nothing greasy is left sitting on the style, so it can go on before work rather than after it.
