This one is for blow-outs and silk presses, not for wash-and-gos, and knowing that up front saves disappointment. Silent Treatment is a heat-activated humidity shield, which means the heat of the dryer is what switches it on.

Keratin and a naturally derived strand coating do the work. Once activated, the coating holds frizz off for up to four shampoos and keeps a pressed or smoothed style looking sleek rather than fuzzy by mid-afternoon. If you have ever watched a two-hour blow-dry collapse on the walk to the car, this is the product aimed at that problem.

Use it after shampooing and conditioning, on damp hair. Part into four to six sections, spray one or two pumps per section, then distribute it through with a detangling brush before blow-drying each section with a brush or pick attachment. Flat iron or style from there.

The Doux designed it to follow their PRESS REWIND shampoo and FAST FORWARD conditioner, though the spray works on its own if you already have a straightening routine you like.

Application tips

Wash and condition first, then work on hair that is still damp. Split the head into four to six sections and give each one a pump or two, held far enough back that the mist lands evenly.

A detangling brush pulls it through a section better than fingers will. Dry each section under a dryer with a pick or brush attachment before anything hot and flat goes near it. Spraying it over finished dry hair will not give the same result. Heat is what sets it.

Results

Frizz stays flattened through humid days, and it holds through about four washes before you need to lay it down again.

The hair reads sleek rather than coated, and it keeps that polished surface after a night on a pillow. Where it earns its place is the fourth day after a blow-out, when the ends would normally start lifting and roughening at the tips.
