Skin sits at around pH 5.5, slightly acidic. Most shampoos run more alkaline than that, and on a scalp that reacts badly it is often the pH rather than any particular ingredient causing the trouble.

Application tips
Wet the hair thoroughly first, because shampoo lathers on water rather than on hair. A ten pence sized amount is enough for shoulder length hair.
Work it into the scalp with fingertips, not nails, and let the run-off clean the lengths on its way down. Rinse for longer than feels necessary. A second wash is only needed if you have been wearing heavy product.
Results
A mild wash that leaves the scalp comfortable rather than squeaky. Because it is matched to the skin's own acidity it does not strip the lengths, so hair comes out clean but still soft enough to detangle.
Lather is modest, which is normal for a gentle formula and no sign of it working less well. Suits daily washing and suits sensitive scalps.
