100% pure cold-pressed olive oil, sold as a hair treatment rather than a kitchen staple. Same oil, different intent, and the cold-pressing is what keeps the antioxidants, vitamins and fatty acids that refining would take out.
It is a heavy oil and that suits its purpose. On dry, brittle hair it restores the moisture that has been lost, which improves elasticity and makes the hair easier to handle without snapping. On the scalp it soothes the feel of dryness and irritation. The shine that comes back is a consequence of a smoother cuticle rather than a coating on top.
