It is worth being straight about what clarifying does. It takes off what has accumulated on the outside of the hair. It cannot put back condition that heat and colour have already taken out, so on genuinely damaged hair this is the step before the treatment rather than the treatment itself.

Application tips
Use it in place of your usual conditioner rather than on top of it. Apply through the lengths after shampooing and work a little into the roots too, which is where residue collects and where most conditioners are best avoided.
Three minutes, then rinse properly. Once a week or once a fortnight suits most hair; more often than that and you may find the ends drying out.
Results
Hair comes out lighter in the hand and moves more freely, which is the giveaway that something was sitting on it before.
Shine returns on lengths that had gone grey-looking under styling residue, and the surface smooths enough to keep frizz in check. Unlike a clarifying shampoo used alone, the hair is left soft rather than squeaking and rough.
