Castor oil at full strength is thick and faintly sticky, and that is exactly what makes it good at staying where you put it. On hair it works best as a sealing step over damp lengths, or as a pre-wash treatment left on the scalp for an hour before you shampoo. On a dry, tight scalp, a small amount rubbed into the parting takes the tightness off.
The bottle also gets used well away from the head. A clean spoolie takes a trace of it along the brows to smooth stray hairs into place, and the same trick works on lashes as a conditioning coat.
