Compression and airflow usually pull against each other. A solid durag holds hair down and traps every bit of heat with it, which is fine in February and miserable in July.
The M4714BLK is a polyester mesh blend, and the weave is what lets it do both jobs. The fabric still pulls hair flat and holds a wave pattern under pressure, but heat and sweat pass straight through instead of collecting against the scalp.
That makes it the summer durag, and the one to wear under a hat, a helmet or a hood. It survives a workout, where a solid durag ends up soaked and has to come off anyway. What mesh gives up in exchange is moisture retention: it breathes, so it will not hold oils and leave-in against the hair the way satin does. The sensible split is mesh for daytime and compression, satin for overnight and conditioning, and most people who wear one end up owning both.

Application tips
Best used in the daytime and through anything that raises a sweat, so keep a solid one for sleeping and this one in the gym bag.
Brush, then tie it on with the seam centred and the ties knotted at the back rather than the front if a helmet or a cap is going over the top. Rinse it after a session and hang it to dry.
Results
It holds hair down with real pressure while letting heat and moisture off the head, which is why it comes through a gym session dry when a heavier fabric would not.
