Medium bristles keep it usable on more or less any texture. Firm enough to lay a wave pattern, soft enough not to leave the scalp sore after a long session. Because there is no handle, the pressure comes from the heel of your palm, and you will find you naturally lighten up near the hairline, which is where you want to be lighter anyway.
