Purple shampoo is a toner you rinse out, and like any toner it works on timing.
L'Oréal Professionnel's Silver shampoo carries violet pigment, which sits opposite yellow on the colour wheel and cancels the warm cast that creeps into grey, white and light blonde hair. Magnesium is in there too, working on the fibre while the pigment does the toning.
The 500 ml bottle is the middle size in the range, and it is the one most people settle on once they know how often they need it. That is usually every second or third wash rather than every time. Leave it on for a minute or two and rinse. Leave it much longer and pale hair can pick up a lilac tinge you did not ask for. It suits grey and white hair that has gone brassy at the front, highlighted blonde warming up between salon visits, and anyone growing out colour who wants the new growth and the old to read at the same temperature.

Application tips
Toning shampoos work on contact time, so this one wants handling differently to your normal wash. Lather on wet hair, then leave it sitting for a couple of minutes before rinsing, and go longer only if the yellow is stubborn.
Wear gloves if your nails stain easily. Rinse until the water runs clear, follow with a conditioner, then drop back to plain shampoo for a wash or two once the tone looks right.
Results
Yellow settles out and the hair reads cooler, closer to a clean silver or a pale blonde than the warm version you started with.
Because the deposit is gradual, one wash nudges the tone and three or four take it further. Hair is left clean rather than coated, and the shine that comes back is mostly a side effect of the brass going quiet.
