The glove is a moderately thick cotton, substantial enough to take the surface heat off a barrel or a plate, flexible enough that you can still hold the section properly. You will feel warmth through it. That is normal and useful, because it tells you when the tool has been in one place too long. Application tips
Wear it on the hand that holds the section, not the hand that holds the tool. Slide the ends into the glove, guide them onto the barrel, and let the fabric take the contact while your other hand controls the heat.
Between passes, park the iron on a heatproof mat rather than resting it against the glove. Wash it by hand when product builds up on the palm, and let it dry fully before the next use.
Results
The sudden contact burn goes away, which is the one that makes you drop a section halfway through a curl. You still feel warmth coming through, and that feedback is useful, since it tells you when the barrel has sat in one place too long. Grip stays good enough to hold a section properly, so styling does not get clumsier in exchange for safety.
