Roasting raises the alkalinity of the oil, and a more alkaline oil opens the cuticle, so it works into the strand and the scalp rather than resting on the surface. The Original is the plainest expression of that in the Jamaican Mango & Lime line. Roasted castor oil, on its own, with no fragrance and no carrier thinning it down. Application tips
Decant some into a smaller bottle with a nozzle. Pouring straight from a full one puts a puddle on the crown and nothing where you want it.
Scalp work goes in rows, a drop at a time, with a minute of pressure per row. For the ends, take a pea-sized amount, spread it across both palms and press the length between them instead of raking, which just moves it around.
Results
Weight is the first thing you notice. It leaves the bottle slowly and sits on the hair in a way thinner oils do not, which is the property that makes it seal so well over a damp leave-in.
Ends hold their moisture for days instead of hours, and the hair snaps less on the comb. The smell is genuine woodsmoke and it fades over a few hours, so a night application is the easy way round it.
