Island Oil smells like the brand itself: warm, sweet and tropical.
It is built on Jamaican black castor oil with a run of other Caribbean plant oils alongside it, and it is a multi purpose bottle rather than a specialist one. On the scalp the emollient oils ease the dry, flaky feel. On locs they bring back the shine that dust and product build up take away. On loose natural hair the blend conditions the lengths, holds a twist out together and gives some cover against the weather. Textured hair of any kind takes it well.
Because black castor oil is doing the heavy lifting, the blend is richer than a plain finishing oil. Apply it to damp hair rather than dry if you want it to spread. The bottle holds 8 oz, so there is room to be generous across a full head.
