The pigment is the reason this exists. Blax is a black-tinted loc wax, so it blends into dark hair while it holds, covering grey roots and lighter new growth that would otherwise sit visible at the parting.
The hold is firm, which is what starting and maintaining locs actually needs. It grips new growth into the loc pattern and keeps braids and twists neat between retwists, without going stiff or shedding flakes across your shoulders. The base is conditioning, built on natural waxes and oils, so it avoids the chalky dryness cheaper waxes are known for. That counts for a lot on locs, where build-up is difficult to reverse once it is in.
