Locking gel does a different job from a styling gel. It holds a twist or a loc while the hair sets rather than defining a curl, and the hold has to be firm enough to survive a night's sleep.
This one is built around shea butter, which is the part that keeps it from drying the hair out. Most locking gels trade moisture for grip and leave you with brittle roots after a few retwists. Shea offsets that, so hair stays soft under the hold.
The finish is smooth and free of flakes, and that matters more on locs than anywhere else, because product residue collects inside a loc and does not come out again easily.
174ml tub. Apply to damp hair at the root, twist or palm-roll, then let it dry fully before you sleep on it. Best for locs, two-strand twists and braids on type 3 and type 4 hair.

Application tips
Damp is the word, not wet. Take a small amount on the fingertips, run it round the base of the loc, then roll between the palms in one direction only, keeping to the way the loc already grows.
Two strand twists want it worked through the whole section instead. Sit under a hooded dryer or wait it out; sleeping on a wet retwist is what pulls it loose.
Results
The hold is firm and lasts overnight, so a retwist is still tidy in the morning. Nothing crusts or flakes off into the loc, which is the usual complaint with a stiff gel.
Roots stay soft under the grip rather than going dry and snappy after a few cycles, and it dries down smooth and low shine rather than glassy.
