Store it somewhere cool. Raw shea softens in a warm room and firms up again as it cools, which changes nothing about how it performs but does make it messier to scoop.

Application tips
It arrives solid. Take a small piece, close your fist round it for half a minute and it turns to oil, which is the state you want before it goes anywhere near hair.
On hair, use it last, over a damp leave-in, concentrating on the ends. On skin, apply straight after a bath while there is still water on you. Whipping a batch with a hand mixer makes it far easier to spread if the raw texture puts you off.
Results
Dryness stops coming back so fast. On ends that were rough by day two, a thin coat holds the softness through the week, and on elbows, knees and heels the change is obvious after a single night.
Texture is grainy and unrefined, and it smells faintly nutty and smoky rather than of nothing. Both are signs it has not been processed flat. Use it sparingly, since too much on hair sits on the surface and dulls it.
