Cocoa butter is the heaviest thing in the Garnier Hair Food range, and pairing it with jojoba oil in a shampoo is a deliberate choice. Jojoba is close to the scalp's own sebum, so it replaces some of what a wash takes out instead of sitting on top afterwards.
Together they make this a shampoo for hair that cannot afford a stripping wash. Dry, damaged and frizzy textures lose their softness in the first ninety seconds of a bad shampoo and spend the rest of the routine trying to get it back. This one cleanses without that.
The bottle holds 350 ml and the formula is vegan. Expect a modest lather rather than a foaming one. It detangles a little as it cleanses, which helps if you are washing dense hair in sections.

Application tips
Section dense hair into four before you get anywhere near the water. Apply to the scalp only, one section at a time, and use the pads of your fingers to lift the dirt rather than scrubbing the hair itself into knots. Let the water do the rest as it runs down. Two short washes work better than one long one if you have been wearing a protective style.
Results
The scalp feels genuinely clean and the lengths do not go crunchy while they wait for conditioner. Hair stays soft enough between the wash and the next step that you are not fighting knots in the shower. The lather is quiet, which throws people, though the hair comes out just as clean. A faint cocoa smell lingers on damp hair and disappears as it dries.
