A 178ml/6.02 oz bottle of Jamaican black castor oil covers a lot of ground: scalp massage, pre shampoo treatment, sealing damp hair, laying edges before a style. Fantasia IC's is the standard roast rather than the extra dark, so it runs a little lighter on the hair and the smoky smell is milder, which matters if you intend to leave it in.
The oil is high in ricinoleic acid and omega-9 fatty acids, and that is why it feels so much thicker than a plain vegetable oil. On the hair it seals, softens and cuts down the breakage that comes from combing dry strands. On the scalp it conditions and takes away the dry, tight feeling that follows a stripping shampoo.
Warm it first. Cold castor oil is sticky and hard to spread.
Suits type 3b through 4c, and it layers well under a butter on wash day.

Application tips
Fewer drops than you think. Castor oil is dense, and a full palm on medium hair will take three washes to shift.
For the lengths, three or four drops rubbed between the hands and pressed over damp hair after a leave-in. For a pre-wash, more is fine, since it comes off in the shampoo. Along a hairline, use the back of a fingernail to place it precisely.
Results
Sealing is the job it does best. A leave-in underneath stays put instead of evaporating by the afternoon, so hair holds its softness into the next day.
Combing costs fewer strands than it did before, and the scalp stops feeling dry and tight after a wash. Edges laid with it stay down and look glossy rather than crunchy, and the smell is milder than the extra dark version.
