Warm the bottle in your hands, part the hair into four, and work it along the scalp before you shampoo. Olive oil is one of the oldest pre wash treatments there is, and a 75ml/2.54 oz bottle makes it easy to do without decanting from a kitchen tin.
This is a mid weight oil, heavier than jojoba and lighter than castor, which puts it in a useful middle position. It conditions dry lengths and softens rough ends without gluing curls together, and it has enough substance to be worth leaving on for twenty minutes before you wash. Used after washing instead, a few drops through damp hair will hold frizz down while the hair dries and leave a soft shine rather than a hard gloss. It is sold as a single oil rather than a blend, so it layers under a cream or a leave in without arguing with either.
Works across type 2a to 4a. Coarser textures can use more of it, and finer hair should stay below the mid-lengths.

Application tips
The overnight version is worth trying if a pre-wash session never fits into the day. Apply along the lengths, plait loosely, cover with a satin scarf, and wash it out in the morning.
The oil has all night to work and the scarf keeps it off the pillow. For a quicker pass, a few drops on damp ends after washing does most of the same job in a minute.
Results
Rough ends soften and dry lengths stop feeling papery. It sits in the middle of the weight range, so curls stay separate rather than clumping into strings, and hair keeps its movement.
Shine is soft rather than glassy. Used before a wash it takes the edge off a stripping shampoo, and hair comes out of the process feeling conditioned instead of squeaky.
