Olive oil has been going on hair for about as long as people have had both, and the reason it lasted is that it is genuinely good at softening a coarse, dry strand.

Difeel use virgin olive oil here, in a small pot aimed squarely at split ends and hair roughed up by heat, chemistry or weather. It goes deep into the shaft rather than coating it, which is why the change in texture holds past the next wash instead of rinsing off with it. Rough, straw-like hair comes out smoother and heavier in the good sense of the word.

  • Virgin olive oil for dry, brittle, coarse hair
  • Softens the ends and slows split ends spreading up the shaft
  • Puts back the moisture heat styling strips out
  • 50g / 1.76 oz, and it suits type 2 waves through to 4a coils

Application tips

Apply it to hair that is damp rather than wet, and give the ends double what you give the mid-lengths. Split ends are the reason to buy this pot, so that is where the product should end up.

Comb it through each section to spread it evenly, cover, and leave it. Rinse thoroughly and skip conditioner afterwards, since olive oil is rich enough to stand in for one.

Results

Coarse, wiry lengths lose their scratchiness and gain a little density, in the way that makes hair sit properly rather than float about. Ends soften and stop catching on knitwear.

Splits already open will not close, but they travel up the shaft more slowly, which buys time between trims. Coarse and dry textures gain shine. Fine hair should take a scraping rather than a scoop, or it will go flat.

Composition

Virgin Olive Oil
Traditional heavy oil that softens coarse, dry strands and dulled ends
