Jojoba behaves less like an oil and more like a wax.

That is why it sinks in so fast and never leaves the film heavier oils do, and it is why jojoba is one of the few oils you can put on fine or wavy hair without flattening the root. Difeel bottle it at 75ml/2.54 oz, small enough to keep in a bag. Use it on damp lengths to hold frizz down as hair dries, or work a couple of drops through the scalp between washes when the skin feels tight. It also does well as a pre shampoo treatment if your shampoo tends to strip.

Suits type 2a right through to 4a. If you have low porosity hair and most oils just sit on the surface, this is the one to try first.

Application tips

Start at the ends and work backwards, with no more than three drops warmed between the palms. That is the whole method for an oil this light.

For the scalp, part into four and lay it directly on the skin with the nozzle, then massage in with fingertips rather than nails. As a pre-wash it needs less sitting time than a heavy oil would, because jojoba absorbs quickly instead of pooling.

Results

It disappears into the hair instead of sitting on it, so there is shine without the film heavier oils leave behind. Roots keep their lift.

Frizz stays down while damp hair dries, which is where a light oil does its most useful work. The scalp feels comfortable rather than coated. Build-up is not really an issue, so daily use is realistic even on fine hair.

Composition

Jojoba Oil
Structurally close to sebum, so hair takes it without the greasy film
