Step 1 in the name is literal. This is the shampoo stage of the Design Essentials blow-dry and silk press collection, sold in a 340ml bottle, and it is worth pairing with the rest of the range if you press your hair regularly.
Sulfate-free and colour-safe, so it cleanses without stripping colour or leaving coily hair squeaking. Agave extract and lavender oil do the softening, backed by mango fruit butter, broccoli oil, green tea extract and a mix of antioxidants and vitamins. The point of all that is a cuticle lying flat, which is what makes the comb glide during a blow-dry instead of catching.
It detangles as it washes, which saves you a fight before the dryer even comes out. Hair comes out softer, feels denser, and is less prone to breakage at the comb.

Application tips
Step one of the blow-dry and silk press routine, so it goes on before anything else. Soak the hair, apply to the scalp in parts, and massage until the lather spreads.
Let it sit for a moment on the lengths while you work, since it detangles as it cleanses. Rinse fully, then move on to the conditioner rather than towel-drying first.
Results
A properly clean scalp, and hair that has held onto its moisture. That is the balance a sulphate-free wash is meant to strike and often does not.
Coils soften and loosen enough that a comb goes through wet, and the cuticle lies flatter afterwards. Hair prepared this way blow-dries smoother and takes fewer passes to straighten.
