Custards behave differently from gels as they dry. A gel sets and then you break the cast; a custard stays slightly pliable, so a child who runs a hand through their hair at lunchtime does not undo the whole style. That makes it more forgiving than the finish alone suggests.
Apply to damp hair in sections, then twist, rake or smooth depending on the style, and separate once it is fully dry. Best on type 3B to 4C hair.

Application tips
Work in quarters on soaking wet hair. Smooth the custard down each section with your palms, then either rake with fingers or shingle strand by strand if you want the pattern to read tighter.
Diffuse on low heat or leave it to air dry completely before touching. Custards elongate as they dry, so resist the urge to fluff halfway through.
Results
Curls stretch a little and gain shine, with enough control to keep the shape from collapsing by lunchtime. Frizz stays flat along the surface and the definition lasts into the following day.
