Cantu's kids custard is a 227 gm jar of shea butter, coconut oil and honey worked into a thick, spreadable base. It smooths the hair down flat where you want it flat, then holds the curl pattern where you want it loose. Because the base is conditioning rather than drying, hair that has been in ponytails all week does not end up brittle underneath.
Rake it through damp hair in sections, smooth with a brush at the hairline, then gather the style. It suits denser textures best, from type 3B down through 4C, where the hair needs something with body behind it to stay put.

Application tips
This one wants wet hair and a clear plan. Damp the head down again if it has started to dry, part off the sections you want, then smooth the custard along each length before you gather anything.
Build the poof or the ponytail while everything is still slick. Once it sets, leave it. Reworking a dry section only brings the frizz back.
Results
Ponytails sit smooth at the base and poofs hold their round shape instead of collapsing by lunchtime. The hold has enough give that hair still feels like hair, and there is no sticky residue for small hands to find.
