If your curls are dry more often than they are dirty, a co-wash earns its place in the cupboard. Cantu's version is a creamy sulphate-free cleanser that behaves more like a conditioner than a shampoo, so it clears sweat and light product without pulling moisture out of the hair on the way through.

Pure shea butter leads a blend of more than fifteen butters and oils. That is a rich formula by co-wash standards, which is why it does better on coarse, thirsty textures than on fine waves.

  • Removes build-up and dirt without stripping natural oils
  • Deep conditioning in the same step as the wash
  • Adds slip, so detangling is less of a fight
  • 10 oz / 283 g

Use it between shampoo washes rather than instead of them forever. Even a rich co-wash routine wants a clarifying wash every few weeks.

Application tips

Co-washing takes more product and more massaging than shampoo, because there is no lather to spread it for you. Apply straight to a wet scalp in sections and work it in with your fingertips for a good minute or two.

Let the rest run through the lengths, then rinse well. Alternate with a proper shampoo every third or fourth wash so nothing builds up.

Results

The finish is clean but conditioned, with none of the tightness that follows a lathering wash. Curls stay soft and moving from the moment they are wet.

Detangling is easier than after shampoo, and dry, brittle strands hold on to more of their moisture through the process. Product residue and dirt still come away, so the scalp is genuinely washed rather than just wetted.

No sulphates
