Silicone-free conditioner is a slower burn. There is no instant slippery finish, because there is nothing coating the hair, so the softness you feel after a few weeks is real rather than borrowed. Avocado oil and shea butter do the work here.
It hydrates brittle strands, gives the curl back some elasticity so it springs instead of hanging, and leaves hair shiny and smooth once dry. Detangling in the shower gets easier, and less comes away on the comb afterwards, which over a few months is the difference between length that grows and length that snaps off at the same point every time.
Work it through after shampooing, leave it in while you finish washing, then rinse properly. On dense hair, section it first so the conditioner actually reaches the middle of the head rather than skating over the top.

Application tips
Apply to hair you have squeezed the water out of, concentrating everything from the ears down. Roots need almost none.
Detangle with a wide tooth comb while it is on, starting at the ends. Leave it three to five minutes, then rinse in cooler water than you washed with. Every wash, not occasionally.
