Rinse it out properly, or leave a trace on the ends if the hair is very dry. Follow with a leave-in while everything is still wet.

Application tips
Apply from the ears down and skip the scalp, since the shampoo has already done its job up there. Leave it in for the length of a song while you rinse the rest of the bath off.
If the hair is badly tangled, take a detangling brush through a section while the conditioner is still slippery, then clip it out of the way and move on to the next one.
Results
Slip comes up within a minute of it going on, and the hair turns from stiff to pliable in the hand. Rinsed out, the curls feel soft and look fuller rather than flattened, and the ends are noticeably less rough.
The whole detangling job gets shorter, which on a school night is the measure that counts.
