It cleans without going scorched earth on the hair's own oils, so tightly coiled textures do not come out of the shower squeaking, and there is enough conditioning in the formula to keep detangling manageable afterwards.

Application tips
Wet hair right through before anything else, then apply at the scalp in four sections rather than piling it on top. Fingertips, not nails.
One lather is usually enough if you wash weekly. Go twice if you have been wearing oil or gel. Rinse until the water runs clear, because leftover shampoo is what makes curls feel rough. Follow with a conditioner while hair is still dripping.
Results
Scalp comes out feeling clean rather than stripped, and the lengths keep enough softness that a wide-tooth comb moves through them.
Curls look less weighed down at the root, which shows up as lift on day one. Nothing coats the strand afterwards, so a leave-in absorbs properly instead of sliding off. Hair dries with its pattern intact.
