Part the hair into sections, apply it to the scalp itself rather than to the hair, and massage it in with your fingertips. Done midweek it takes the tightness out without disturbing whatever style you are wearing.
It suits curly, coily and wavy hair, and it sits comfortably inside low-manipulation routines where you are trying to touch the hair as little as possible. Protective styles, cold weather and product build-up all leave a scalp wanting something, and this is a much smaller intervention than starting a wash day over from the beginning.

Application tips
Warm the bottle in your hands first, because cold oil sits on the skin and takes far longer to go anywhere. Small amounts, directly onto the parting, then a slow massage until it stops feeling wet. Leave it in. If you wear braids or twists, the nozzle reaches between them without disturbing the style. Two or three times a week is a sensible rhythm.
Results
The tightness goes within minutes and stays gone for a day or two, rather than for the length of an evening.
